My name is Mara and in Jan 2003 I moved from Cork (Ireland) to Luxor, Egypt. I have spent my time studying the local culture, learning Arabic, networking, developing relationships among the business community and bringing together a reliable team of workers, craftsmen, artisans, legal and business advisors. In August 2003 I took the plunge and invested my own money in designing and building 9 flats in Luxor at Mara House, behind the train station.
My career to date has been in the fields of Marketing, Sales, Tourism, Property Development, New Business Start Ups & Existing Business Analysis & Improvement, Staff Training, Life Coaching & Alternative Health Therapies. My travels have taken me from Ireland to Britain, France, Spain, Yugoslavia, Turkey, USA and Egypt.
Mara's BEST ADVICE to visitors....
Never, ever let anyone persuade you to sign a document you cannot read....get it translated first in writing and MAKE SURE you keep copies of all documents in both languages.
Thinking of long term renting? Take time to calculate ALL the money you are going to spend between the deposit, cost of finishing or redecorating the property + the monthly rent over the full rental period and your financial liabilities.......you may find it is cheaper to buy! Unless you KNOW EXACTLY the length of time it will take and the costs involved in the finishing and decorating you may be spending more than you think!
Don't do anything here regarding people, business or money that you would not do at home!
